Train lock

Family Leg Locks

Also known as Tren Lock — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: Informal alternate spelling and pronunciation variant

Colloquial — common mis-rendering of tren lock

Train lock is the colloquial mis-rendering of the tren lock — flagging the homophone-confusion that produces the alternate spelling in casual coaching speech.

Etymology. “Train” is the homophone-derived form of “tren” — the latter is the canonical name. The “train lock” rendering appears in spoken contexts where the speaker may not have seen the technique name in writing.

Mechanics. The tren lock builds a V-lever around the knee and finishes as a short Achilles lock — the structural target is the same regardless of which name is used.

Cross-reference. “Tren lock” is the canonical name; “Pato lock” is the widely used alternative. Full mechanical coverage on Tren Lock.
