Short Achilles lock
Also known as Tren Lock — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: Describes the finish rather than the control; the tren lock is one way of arriving at it
Describes the tren lock finish rather than its control
Short Achilles lock describes the finish the tren lock arrives at, rather than the control that makes it available.
Etymology. Descriptive — “short” distinguishes the compressed finishing position from a long, extended ankle lock.
Mechanics. The tren lock is one route to this finish. The distinguishing work happens before it: the knee is immobilised in a V and a leg triangle, so the Achilles is loaded against a leg that cannot rotate away.
Cross-reference. “Tren lock” is the canonical name. Full coverage on Tren Lock.
