SLX stand-up

Also known as Shoelace Heist Reversal — the canonical term used on this site.

Single-leg-X stand-up to top

SLX stand-up is a descriptive name for the shoelace heist reversal — “SLX” abbreviating single-leg X, the position the stand-up rises from.

Etymology. “SLX” is the standard shorthand for single-leg X-guard; “stand-up” names the action of coming up to top. The label frames the reversal as standing up out of the entanglement rather than sweeping from the back.

Mechanics. The stand-up is a scramble for hip height: as the bottom player rises out of single-leg X, they drive to put their hips above the opponent’s, and the higher hips hold the structural advantage that lands them on top as the opponent’s elevated leg leaves them unable to contest the height.

Cross-reference. “Shoelace sweep” and “Shoelace stand-up” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Shoelace Heist Reversal.
