Muay Thai plum

Also known as Double Collar Tie — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: combat sports context — the clinch used for knee strikes

Muay Thai name for the double collar tie

Muay Thai plum is the striking-arts name for the double collar tie — “plum” or “plum clinch” naming the same two-handed grip behind the head.

Etymology. The term crosses over from Muay Thai, where the plum clinch controls an opponent for knees and elbows. Grappling borrowed both the grip and the name; “plum” is an English approximation of the Thai term for the clinch.

Mechanics. The plum breaks the opponent’s structural posture by collapsing the head forward and down; with the spine bent and the structure disrupted, the opponent cannot resist the steering that sets up knees, sweeps, or entries.

Cross-reference. “Double collar” and “Double neck tie” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Double Collar Tie.
