Double collar
Also known as Double Collar Tie — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: abbreviated
Short name for the double collar tie clinch
Double collar is a short name for the double collar tie — the clinch with both hands cupped behind the opponent’s head and neck.
Etymology. “Collar tie” is the wrestling term for a grip on the back of the neck, named for the collarbone region it controls rather than any garment; “double” marks both hands gripping. The clipped “double collar” drops “tie” in speech.
Mechanics. The double collar tie controls the head, and controlling the head destabilises the whole structure — steering the opponent’s posture breaks their balance to the hands first, setting up the entries and knees the position threatens.
Cross-reference. “Double neck tie” and “Muay Thai plum” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Double Collar Tie.
