Leg reap sweep
Also known as Irimi Ashi Sweep — the canonical term used on this site.
Names the irimi-ashi leg-reap sweep
Leg reap sweep is a descriptive name for the irimi ashi sweep — naming the reaping of the opponent’s leg that the sweep turns on.
Etymology. “Leg reap” describes hooking and sweeping the opponent’s leg out; “sweep” names the reversal. The label foregrounds the reaping action, where “irimi ashi” names the entering-foot mechanic.
Mechanics. The reap destabilises the opponent by removing a support: hooking the leg and driving it across breaks their base toward the reaped side, and the bottom player follows the off-balance up into the reversal before the opponent can recover the swept leg.
Cross-reference. “Foot sweep from bottom” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Irimi Ashi Sweep.
