Double leg takedown
Also known as Double Leg Entry — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: full name
Full name for the double leg entry
Double leg takedown is the full name for the double leg — spelling out “takedown” where the shorter “double leg” leaves it implied.
Etymology. “Double leg” names the attack on both of the opponent’s legs; “takedown” attaches the outcome. The full form is the formal name; “double leg” alone is the everyday shorthand for the same entry.
Mechanics. The double leg requires a level change before penetration — dropping under the opponent’s hips so the drive travels through their base. Attacking both legs without first changing levels leaves the attacker bent over and reaching, and the entry stalls short of the hips.
Cross-reference. “Doubles” and “D-leg” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Double Leg Entry.
