Waiter position sweep
Also known as Waiter Sweep — the canonical term used on this site.
Names the waiter half guard sweep
Waiter position sweep is a descriptive name for the waiter sweep — naming the waiter position, the leg held up like a tray, that the sweep works from.
Etymology. “Waiter position” describes cupping the opponent’s leg overhead on the palm as a waiter holds a tray; “sweep” names the reversal. The label names the sweep by that distinctive posture.
Mechanics. The waiter sweep elevates through hip mobility: holding the leg up and bridging the hips lifts the opponent’s weight off the support, and the hip drive turns that elevation into a roll, reversing the position as the opponent loses the base the lifted leg used to provide.
Cross-reference. “Far leg sweep” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Waiter Sweep.
