Slide by

Also known as Go Behind — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: Alternative name — refers to sliding past the opponent to the rear

Descriptive — sliding past to the back

Slide by is a descriptive name for the go-behind — naming the slide past the opponent’s arm and shoulder to reach the back.

Etymology. “Slide by” describes redirecting the opponent’s reaching arm and slipping past it; “go-behind” names the destination. The label foregrounds the sliding motion, where “go-behind” names where it ends.

Mechanics. Sliding past wins the back, the positional advantage that every standing attack is trying to reach; from behind the opponent, the attacker has access to control and finishes the opponent cannot defend, because they cannot face an attacker they cannot turn toward.

Cross-reference. “Spin behind” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Go Behind.
