Single
Also known as Single Leg Entry — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: abbreviated
Clipped name for the single leg
Single is the clipped name for the single leg — dropping “leg” the way “double” stands in for the double leg.
Etymology. “Single” abbreviates “single leg” into a one-word call, common in the room and the corner. It carries no lineage beyond convenience and is understood from context.
Mechanics. The shot requires a level change before penetration — dropping the hips so the entry passes under the opponent’s base toward the captured leg; shooting without changing levels leaves the attacker reaching up at the leg and the entry is stuffed before it reaches the hip.
Cross-reference. “Single leg takedown,” “High single,” and “Low single” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Single Leg Entry.
