Single leg takedown

Also known as Single Leg Entry — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: full name

Full name for the single leg entry

Single leg takedown is the full name for the single leg — spelling out “takedown” where the shorter “single leg” leaves it implied.

Etymology. “Single leg” names the attack on one of the opponent’s legs; “takedown” attaches the outcome. The full form is the formal name, “single leg” the everyday shorthand for the same entry.

Mechanics. The single leg’s functional goal is hip access: capturing one leg is the means, but the takedown is finished by reaching and controlling the hips, so the attacker drives past the leg to the hip line rather than stalling holding the limb in space.

Cross-reference. “Single,” “High single,” and “Low single” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Single Leg Entry.
