Sideways kneebar defence

Descriptive — knee extended sideways, not straight back
Sideways kneebar defence is the plain-language name for lateral knee bar defence, naming the vector that separates it from a conventional kneebar.
Etymology. “Sideways” translates “lateral” into everyday terms, and the substitution is worth making because the direction is the whole danger. A conventional kneebar extends the hinge; this one loads the medial side, which is ligament rather than architecture.
Mechanics. The knee has real tolerance in extension and almost none laterally, so the same force reaches injury far sooner. Rotating toward the trapped knee converts the lateral load into straight extension — buying range where there was none, which is a legitimate escape in itself.
