Shuck

Also known as Snap Down — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: Informal term sometimes used for a snap-and-redirect motion

Informal — shucking the head past to go behind

Shuck is a colloquial name for the snap down — wrestling slang for shucking the snapped head past to slip behind.

Etymology. “Shuck” describes flinging the head and arm aside, the way one shucks a husk; it is informal wrestling vocabulary for redirecting a snapped-down opponent toward the back. The term names the redirect that follows the snap.

Mechanics. The shuck destabilises the opponent to their hands and then redirects that broken posture sideways, turning a forward stumble into exposure of the back; the destabilisation to the hands is the advantage, and the shuck cashes it in by sending them past the attacker rather than straight down.

Cross-reference. “Head snap” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Snap Down.
