Head snap
Also known as Snap Down — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: Alternative descriptive term
Descriptive — snapping the head down
Head snap is a descriptive name for the snap down — naming the sharp downward snap of the opponent’s head that drives the technique.
Etymology. “Head snap” describes the quick, jerking pull on the head and neck; “snap down” names the same motion with its destination. The two are interchangeable, the “head” version naming what is snapped.
Mechanics. Snapping the head down destabilises the opponent forward and off their base before any control is taken; the sudden break of posture sends their weight over their hands, opening the front headlock or the go-behind that the snap sets up.
Cross-reference. “Shuck” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Snap Down.
