Training background: descriptive

Descriptive — the omoplata shoulder-lock control

Shoulder lock control position is a descriptive name for omoplata control — naming the position by the shoulder lock it controls and threatens.

Etymology. “Shoulder lock” translates the omoplata’s target in plain English; “control position” frames it as a holding point. The label describes the position by function rather than the Portuguese term.

Mechanics. The control isolates the shoulder, the joint that must be removed from the opponent’s defensive system before the lock finishes: trapping the arm with the legs and pinning the body keeps the shoulder separated and loadable, so the position both holds the opponent and keeps the target joint isolated for the attacks it sets up.

Cross-reference. “Omoplata position” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Omoplata Control.
