Omoplata position
Also known as Omoplata Control — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: general reference — encompasses both control and submission use
Names the omoplata as a control position
Omoplata position is a descriptive name for omoplata control — naming the omoplata used as a controlling position rather than an immediate finish.
Etymology. “Omoplata” is the Portuguese for shoulder blade, naming the shoulder lock; “position” frames it as a place to control from. The label foregrounds the positional use over the submission.
Mechanics. The omoplata control is a dominant position that submission and sweep options branch from: with the shoulder isolated and the opponent’s posture broken forward, the attacker holds positional advantage, the prerequisite for the attacks it opens. Holding the position first is what makes the finish or the sweep available rather than rushed.
Cross-reference. “Shoulder lock control position” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Omoplata Control.
