Scramble hierarchy

Also known as Scramble Principles — the canonical term used on this site.

Names the positional hierarchy in scrambles

Scramble hierarchy is a descriptive name for the scramble principles reference — naming the ranking of positions that decides who is winning a scramble.

Etymology. “Scramble” names the unsettled exchange; “hierarchy” names the order of advantage the principles establish. The label foregrounds the ranking of who holds the better position moment to moment.

Mechanics. In a scramble the greater hip height holds the structural advantage: the player whose hips are higher can drive down and behind, while the lower player is exposed. The hierarchy follows hip height, so the principle is to win and keep the high hips, since position in a scramble is decided by who is above whom.

Cross-reference. “Scramble framework” and “Transition principles” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Scramble Principles.
