Scorpion back take

Also known as Scorpion to Back Take — the canonical term used on this site.

Names the scorpion half guard back take

Scorpion back take is a descriptive name for the scorpion to back take — naming the back take launched from the scorpion half guard.

Etymology. “Scorpion” names the half-guard variant where the bottom player’s leg curls back like a scorpion’s tail; “back take” names the destination. The label locates the back take in that position.

Mechanics. The scorpion control wins the underhook and the angle behind the opponent’s hip; with the underhook controlling that hip, the bottom player slides off the bottom and around to the back rather than reversing into top, the hip control opening the rotation behind them.

Cross-reference. “Half guard back take” and “Duck-under back take from half guard” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Scorpion to Back Take.
