Duck-under back take from half guard
Also known as Scorpion to Back Take — the canonical term used on this site.
Duck-under to the back from half guard
Duck-under back take from half guard is a descriptive name for the scorpion to back take — naming the duck-under motion used to reach the back.
Etymology. “Duck-under” borrows the wrestling term for slipping under an arm to the back; “from half guard” locates it. The label describes the path to the back rather than the scorpion leg position.
Mechanics. The bottom player’s posting hand and underhook create the opening: controlling the arm and dipping under it lets them thread to the back, the hand control clearing the obstacle so the duck-under arrives behind the opponent rather than stalling against a free post.
Cross-reference. “Scorpion back take” and “Half guard back take” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Scorpion to Back Take.
