Reverse X counter

Also known as Ushiro X Pass — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: common gym language

Informal — passing/countering the reverse X

Reverse X counter is a colloquial name for the ushiro X pass — “reverse X” being the English name for ushiro X, the entanglement this pass counters.

Etymology. “Reverse X” translates “ushiro X” (Japanese for “rear X”); “counter” frames the pass as the answer to it. The label names the pass by the entanglement it defeats, in the more familiar English term.

Mechanics. The reverse X engages the passer’s leg through a hooking foot line; the counter clears that foot-line engagement, so the entanglement can no longer load the leg, and the passer frees the limb to pass.

Cross-reference. “Back X defence” and “Anti-ushiro X” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Ushiro X Pass.
