Back X defence
Also known as Ushiro X Pass — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: colloquial — matches the guard name variant
Informal — defending the back/ushiro X
Back X defence is a colloquial name for the ushiro X pass — “back X” being a literal rendering of ushiro X, the rear-facing X entanglement.
Etymology. “Back X” translates “ushiro” as “back”; “defence” frames the pass as defending against the entanglement. The label is informal and descriptive, naming the position by direction and the pass by its defensive role.
Mechanics. The back X controls the passer through the bottom player’s hip mobility and leg position; the defence shuts down that mobility, pinning the hips so the entanglement cannot reorient to keep the leg, after which it unravels and the leg comes free.
Cross-reference. “Reverse X counter” and “Anti-ushiro X” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Ushiro X Pass.
