Over-under clinch (back context)

Also known as Harness Control — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: When applied from a standing clinch entry

Contextual — over-under from standing clinch transitioning to back

Over-under clinch (back context) is the configuration name for an over-under standing clinch that transitions to the harness back-position grip — the same arm geometry applied first in clinch and then carried into the back-control configuration as the position shifts.

Etymology. “Over-under clinch” is the standard wrestling label for the standing two-arm configuration with one arm over the shoulder and one under the armpit. The “(back context)” qualifier flags the configuration as the back-attack entry rather than the standing-engagement clinch. The compound phrase appears in instructional contexts that emphasise the clinch-to-back transition specifically.

Mechanics. The standing over-under grip carries directly into the harness back-control configuration — the same closed-loop arm geometry, applied first against an upright opponent and then maintained as the opponent’s posture changes.

Cross-reference. “Harness control” and “seatbelt grip” reference the same arm configuration in the back-position context. Full mechanical coverage on Harness Control.
