Omoplata to triangle names the conversion: a shoulder lock from omoplata control that becomes a strangle when the defender postures out of it.
Etymology. The label is a route rather than a technique name, which is honest about what it is. The finish is an ordinary triangle; what earns it a name is where the legs started.
Mechanics. The trapped arm changes job during the switch. In the omoplata it is a lever; in the triangle it is a compression surface, and those want it in different places — so the arm has to be pulled across the centreline as the figure-four closes or the shoulder sits beside the neck rather than against it.
