Neck tie
Also known as Single Collar Tie — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: colloquial
Informal — collar tie on the neck
Neck tie is a colloquial name for the single collar tie — naming the grip by the neck it cups rather than the collarbone region.
Etymology. “Neck tie” is a plainer synonym for the collar tie, describing the hand on the back of the neck. It is informal vocabulary, used where “collar tie” sounds technical or garment-related.
Mechanics. Controlling the head with the neck grip wins the upper-body advantage that precedes the takedown: destabilising the opponent to their hands and posture is the advantage the tie banks, and from there the snap, the drag, or the entry to the legs converts that advantage into the finish.
Cross-reference. “Collar tie,” “Head tie,” and “Thai plum single” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Single Collar Tie.
