Collar tie
Also known as Single Collar Tie — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: abbreviated form
Wrestling term for the single neck grip
Collar tie is the short name for the single collar tie — one hand cupped behind the opponent’s neck, the foundational standing tie.
Etymology. “Collar tie” is the wrestling term for a grip on the back of the neck, named for the collarbone region it controls rather than any garment; the single version uses one hand. “Single” is dropped where only one collar tie is meant.
Mechanics. The tie controls the head, and steering the head destabilises the whole structure; pulling, turning, and snapping through the collar tie breaks the opponent’s posture, which is why the grip anchors so many entries, snaps, and ties from the feet.
Cross-reference. “Head tie,” “Neck tie,” and “Thai plum single” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Single Collar Tie.
