Matador pass

Also known as Toreando Pass — the canonical term used on this site.

Bullfighting image for the toreando pass

Matador pass is another bullfighting name for the toreando pass — naming the passer for the matador whose cape sweep the motion resembles.

Etymology. “Matador” draws on the same bullfighting image as “toreando” and “bullfighter,” casting the passer as the matador sweeping the bull’s charge aside. All three names describe the same grip-and-redirect with no mechanical difference.

Mechanics. Once the feet are swept offline, the passer immediately advances to and holds the knee line before the legs can return; the redirect clears the feet and the fast advance into the cleared space converts the clearance into the pass.

Cross-reference. “Bullfighter pass” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Toreando Pass.
