Bullfighter pass
Also known as Toreando Pass — the canonical term used on this site.
English rendering of toreando (bullfighter)
Bullfighter pass is the English rendering of the toreando pass — “toreando” being the Portuguese for the bullfighter the grip-and-push evokes.
Etymology. “Bullfighter” translates the bullfighting image already present in “toreando”: gripping both legs and sweeping them aside resembles a matador’s cape sweep. The English name simply makes that image explicit.
Mechanics. The grip-and-push to the outside is purely a foot-clearing motion — both feet are moved entirely off the centreline before the passer advances. Stepping in before the feet are cleared walks straight into a hook or a re-guard.
Cross-reference. “Matador pass” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Toreando Pass.
