Lockdown stretch escape
Also known as Electric Chair Escape — the canonical term used on this site.
Descriptive — the lockdown used to stretch the legs apart
Lockdown stretch escape names the electric chair by the leg control that produces it, the lockdown that half guard players use to stretch and immobilise.
Etymology. The lockdown is a specific half guard leg configuration in which the bottom player triangles a leg and extends. Naming the attack after it points the top player at the right prevention: the submission cannot happen without it.
Mechanics. Because the lockdown is the precondition, denying or breaking it is worth more than any answer available afterwards. Once the split begins the top player is defending their adductors from a position they are also losing, which is why the deliberate concession is the sensible late choice.
Cross-reference. “Deep half split defence” is the positional name. Full escape coverage on Electric Chair Escape.
