Names the pass as a counter to the lockdown
Lockdown counter is a descriptive name for the lockdown pass — framing the pass as the counter to an opponent who has secured the lockdown.
Etymology. “Lockdown” names the entanglement; “counter” frames the passer’s response. The label has no specific lineage — it describes the pass by the position it answers rather than the mechanics it uses.
Mechanics. The lockdown generates power through hip extension, the bottom player stretching the laced legs to create space and elevate; countering it means denying that hip mobility, pinning the hips so the extension cannot fire, after which the lace loses its force.
Cross-reference. “Lockdown escape” and “Figure-four half guard pass” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Lockdown Pass.
