Kosoto from octopus

Also known as Octopus Kosoto Sweep — the canonical term used on this site.

Kosoto reap from the octopus position

Kosoto from octopus is a descriptive name for the octopus kosoto sweep — naming the kosoto reap launched from the octopus position.

Etymology. “Kosoto” borrows the judo small-outside-reap term; “from octopus” locates it in the clinging octopus guard. The label names the reap by its judo lineage and its starting position.

Mechanics. The kosoto reaps the opponent’s outside leg to destabilise them: hooking and driving that leg out from under them breaks their base toward the reaped side, and the off-balance reverses the position as the bottom player follows the opponent down and over.

Cross-reference. “Outside ankle reap from body lock” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Octopus Kosoto Sweep.
