Inner thigh throw
Also known as Uchi Mata — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: Descriptive English name
English rendering of uchi mata
Inner thigh throw is the English rendering of uchi mata — “uchi” meaning inner and “mata” meaning thigh, after the reaping leg’s target.
Etymology. The name translates the judo term: the attacker’s leg reaps up into the inside of the opponent’s thigh to lift and turn them. “Inner thigh throw” states that target directly in English.
Mechanics. The reaping leg removes the opponent’s support by sweeping the inner thigh; destabilisation depends on controlling that loaded leg, so the throw lifts and reaps the very leg the opponent’s weight is settling onto, leaving nothing beneath them.
Cross-reference. “Inner thigh reap” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Uchi Mata.
