Inner thigh reap

Also known as Uchi Mata — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: Alternate English descriptor — emphasises the reaping leg action

Names the inner-thigh reap of uchi mata

Inner thigh reap is a descriptive name for uchi mata — foregrounding the reap of the inner thigh over the throw it produces.

Etymology. “Inner thigh reap” names the defining action: the leg reaping up between the opponent’s thighs. Where “inner thigh throw” emphasises the outcome, this label emphasises the reaping mechanic itself.

Mechanics. Kuzushi here is the sustained loading of weight onto the very leg the reap will take: the attacker draws the opponent’s balance onto the support leg, then reaps the inner thigh out from under that loaded weight, so the support vanishes precisely when it is bearing the most.

Cross-reference. “Inner thigh throw” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Uchi Mata.
