Imanari entry
Also known as Imanari Roll — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: Shorter term used in many instructional contexts.
Named for Masakazu Imanari's leg-lock entry
Imanari entry is an alternate name for the imanari roll — naming the rolling entry into leg entanglements for Masakazu Imanari.
Etymology. The roll is named for Masakazu Imanari, whose MMA leg-lock attacks attached the name to this rolling entry. “Entry” frames it as the way into an entanglement; the attribution is event-anchored to the competitor associated with it.
Mechanics. The roll destabilises by inverting under the opponent’s base, turning the attacker beneath the legs to arrive at the entanglement; destabilisation precedes the control, since the roll must unbalance and turn the position before the leg can be captured.
Cross-reference. “Rolling leg lock entry” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Imanari Roll.
