High mount escape
Also known as S-Mount Escape Techniques — the canonical term used on this site.
Escape from high mount (S-mount variant)
High mount escape is the label for the escape sequence from high mount and S-mount — the mount variants in which the attacker’s knees are above the opponent’s elbow line, exposing the bottom player’s arms for armbar entries.
Etymology. “High mount” specifies the knee-line position: above the elbow line, not at the hip line as in standard full mount. “S-mount” is the specific configuration with one knee elevated for armbar setup. Both share escape considerations distinct from full mount.
Mechanics. The escape priority is preventing the arm exposure that the high knee-line creates — the bottom player must protect the arms while restoring the standard mount geometry where escapes are more available.
Cross-reference. “S-mount escape” and “twisted mount escape” reference related configurations. Full mechanical coverage on S-Mount Escape.
