Front bodylock
Also known as Front Body Lock — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: common spelling variant
Descriptive — body lock from the front
Front bodylock is a descriptive name for the front body lock — closing “body lock” into one word and marking the front-facing variant.
Etymology. “Front” distinguishes it from the rear body lock; “bodylock” is the same clasp around the torso written as one word. The label is plainly descriptive, with the spelling the only difference from the canonical name.
Mechanics. Clasping the hands around the opponent’s torso eliminates the space between the two bodies and transfers the attacker’s weight onto them; with no gap to hip into and their centre loaded, the opponent cannot create the room a defence or counter would need.
Cross-reference. “Bear hug front” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Front Body Lock.
