Descriptive — the clasp closing around the foot
Foot lock clasp defence is the descriptive name for Estima lock defence, naming the closing clasp that both defines and finishes the attack.
Etymology. “Clasp” is the operative word, because the moment of closure is the moment the defence ends. Naming the grip rather than the joint reflects how the position is actually read: hands arriving at the foot are the cue, and there is no second cue.
Mechanics. The submission carries a defence waiver — once the clasp closes it breaks the foot before pain registers, so there is no interval in which an escape could occur. Everything worth learning happens before that: keep the foot off the attacker’s hip and belly line, and withdraw it the moment hands travel toward it.
