Drag sweep

Also known as Butterfly Arm Drag Sweep — the canonical term used on this site.

Names the sweep off the arm drag

Drag sweep is a short name for the butterfly arm drag sweep — naming the sweep by the arm drag that sets it up.

Etymology. “Drag” names the arm drag; “sweep” names the reversal it produces. The clipped term drops the butterfly context, used where the position is understood.

Mechanics. The drag off-balances the opponent over the dragged-side edge before the sweep finishes; pulling the arm across breaks their base toward that side, and the destabilisation is what lets the butterfly hook tip them the rest of the way rather than fighting a squared, balanced opponent.

Cross-reference. “Arm drag from butterfly” and “Two-on-one butterfly” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Butterfly Arm Drag Sweep.
