Double under

Also known as Double Underhooks — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: abbreviated

Short name for double underhooks

Double under is the short name for double underhooks — dropping “hooks” where the meaning is understood in the clinch.

Etymology. “Double under” names both arms threaded under the opponent’s, the “under” doing the work that “underhooks” spells out. It is everyday clinch shorthand, identical in meaning to the longer term.

Mechanics. Each underhook controls the hip on its own side, so two of them lock both hips at once; with the opponent’s hips controlled on both sides they cannot turn in or hip away, and the attacker owns the body lock, the mat return, and the back.

Cross-reference. “Inside control” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Double Underhooks.
