Butt scooting
Also known as Guard Pull — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: Informal term — typically refers to pulling to seated guard specifically.
Informal — scooting in seated open guard
Butt scooting is a colloquial name for the guard pull — informal, often teasing vocabulary for sitting and scooting toward a standing opponent.
Etymology. “Butt scooting” describes shuffling forward on the seat in seated open guard after pulling down; the term is informal and frequently used dismissively of a passive seated game. It names the same guard-pull entry from a less flattering angle.
Mechanics. Scooting in closes the distance to establish the connection a seated guard needs to attack; until the scoot brings grips or hooks onto the standing opponent, the seated player has no control, so the scoot is the move from open distance into a controlling connection.
Cross-reference. “Pulling guard” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Guard Pull.
