Body lock butterfly
Also known as Octopus Butterfly Sweep — the canonical term used on this site.
Body lock from butterfly guard
Body lock butterfly is a descriptive name for the octopus butterfly sweep — naming the body lock the bottom player clasps to drive the butterfly reversal.
Etymology. “Body lock” names the clasp around the opponent’s torso; “butterfly” names the hooking guard. The label foregrounds the body-lock grip over the octopus arm wrap.
Mechanics. The body lock eliminates the space between the players and binds the opponent’s weight to the bottom player; with no gap and the opponent’s centre tied close, the butterfly hook can elevate and roll them, since they cannot create the distance needed to post out of the sweep.
Cross-reference. “Octopus hook sweep” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Octopus Butterfly Sweep.
