Base position

Also known as Standing — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: general grappling term

Names the based standing posture

Base position is a descriptive name for the standing position — naming the posture by the base that keeps a player upright and stable.

Etymology. “Base position” foregrounds being “based”: weight settled so the player cannot be easily off-balanced. “Standing” names the broader position the base belongs to. The label emphasises stability over neutrality.

Mechanics. Base is weight distribution over the support points, and a based standing posture keeps the centre of gravity stacked over the feet so pulls, snaps, and level changes cannot tip the player past recovery; losing base — weight drifting off the feet — is what every standing attack is trying to cause.

Cross-reference. “Neutral position” and “Open stance” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Standing.
