Ashi back take

Also known as SLX Back Take — the canonical term used on this site.

Back take from the ashi/SLX position

Ashi back take is a descriptive name for the SLX back take — “ashi” naming the leg entanglement the back take is launched from.

Etymology. “Ashi” is shorthand for the ashi garami family of leg entanglements that single-leg X belongs to; “back take” names the destination. The label frames the back take by the entanglement that sets it up.

Mechanics. The back take follows a destabilisation: elevating the controlled leg off-balances the opponent forward, and as they post to recover the bottom player follows that off-balance around to the back; the off-balance opens the rear angle before the back is taken.

Cross-reference. “SLX back entry” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on SLX Back Take.
