Under crucifix
Also known as Crucifix — Bottom — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: descriptive
Descriptive — the crucifix from the bottom
Under crucifix is a descriptive name for the crucifix bottom position — naming the defensive side of the crucifix, with both arms trapped.
Etymology. “Under” frames the position from the trapped player’s perspective; “crucifix” names the control, both arms pinned apart like a crossbeam. The label is the bottom counterpart to the top crucifix.
Mechanics. With both arms trapped, escape begins by re-establishing a frame: the trapped player works to free one arm and post it, since a frame redirects the controlling pressure and creates the space to turn. Without recovering a frame, there is no leverage to escape the crossbeam control.
Cross-reference. “Arm-trapped lateral position” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Crucifix — Bottom.
