Turtle roll armbar

Also known as Shotgun Armbar — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: Informal descriptive term

Informal — turtle-position rolling armbar entry

Turtle roll armbar is an informal coaching shorthand for the shotgun armbar entered from turtle — flagging both the entry position and the rolling mechanic in a single label.

Etymology. “Turtle roll” specifies the entry and motion; “armbar” attaches the submission category. The shortened form is common in spoken coaching where the longer “rolling armbar from turtle” is cumbersome. Both labels refer to the same shotgun-armbar configuration entered through a roll from the turtle bottom position.

Mechanics. The rolling entry isolates the target arm during the rotation and the continuous rotational momentum destabilises the opponent before the armbar lock arrives.

Cross-reference. “Shotgun armbar” is the canonical site label; “rolling armbar from turtle” is the longer descriptive form. Full mechanical coverage on Shotgun Armbar.
