Step-over mount
Also known as S-Mount — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: Descriptive term for the entry mechanism
Descriptive — stepping the leg over into S-mount
Step-over mount is a descriptive name for the S-mount — naming the step of the leg over the opponent’s far arm and head that forms the S shape.
Etymology. “Step-over” describes lifting and planting the leg across the opponent’s upper body; “mount” names the family. The label foregrounds the action that builds the position, where “S-mount” names the shape it makes.
Mechanics. The step-over destabilises the opponent toward the armbar: bringing the leg over the far arm shifts the mount into a higher, attacking configuration that off-balances them and isolates the trapped arm, so the position is a transition into the finish rather than a static pin.
