Training background: emphasises the stack as the primary mechanic
Stacking to defend a leg entanglement
Stacking defence against ashi is a descriptive name for standing vs entangled guard — naming the stack used to defend an ashi garami entanglement.
Etymology. “Stacking” names the action of folding the entangled player’s legs back toward them; “ashi” is shorthand for ashi garami, the leg entanglement. The label names the defence by its method against that position.
Mechanics. Stacking destabilises the entangling player before the heel can be attacked: folding the legs back over them loads weight onto their hips and breaks the alignment the entanglement needs, so the position comes apart rather than tightening into a finish.
Cross-reference. “Standing leg lock defence,” “Vertical ashi defence,” and “Standing 50/50 counter” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Standing vs Entangled Guard.
