Side triangle choke
Also known as Side Triangle — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: English descriptive
Descriptive — triangle applied from the side
Side triangle choke is a descriptive name for the side triangle — naming the triangle locked from a side-on, perpendicular angle to the opponent.
Etymology. “Side” describes the perpendicular orientation, the attacker beside rather than facing the opponent; “triangle choke” names the strangle. The label distinguishes the side angle from the front and reverse triangles.
Mechanics. From the side the triangle still compresses both sides of the neck at once: the legs close around the head and one arm while the side angle keeps the carotids lined up under the squeeze. The perpendicular position changes how the legs wrap, not the requirement that both sides press together to strangle.
Cross-reference. “Lateral triangle” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Side Triangle.
