Scythe sweep

Also known as Sickle Sweep — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: Alternative name referencing the same cutting motion

Descriptive — scythe-arc variant of the sickle sweep

Scythe sweep is a descriptive name for the sickle sweep — “scythe” naming the same curved, reaping arc by a larger farming blade.

Etymology. “Scythe” and “sickle” both name curved reaping tools; the sweep is named for the arcing path the leg cuts through the opponent’s base. The two labels are interchangeable, differing only in which blade the image borrows.

Mechanics. The reaping leg destabilises the opponent by sweeping the base out in a wide arc while the upper body is pushed the other way; the opposing forces tip the opponent over the reaped foot, dropping them as their support is cut away beneath them.

Cross-reference. “Sickle sweep” and “Ankle sweep” are sibling aliases. Full mechanical coverage on Sickle Sweep.
