Pummeling position

Also known as Over-Under Clinch — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: refers to the underhook competition process

Names the underhook battle of the clinch

Pummeling position is a descriptive name for the over-under clinch — naming the position by the pummeling, the fight for underhooks, that defines it.

Etymology. “Pummeling” names the continual exchange of underhooks each player works for; “position” frames the over-under tie as the neutral ground that fight takes place on. The label foregrounds the action over the grip structure.

Mechanics. The over-under clinch closes the space between the players, chest to chest, so neither can build the distance to strike or shoot freely; with the gap eliminated and weight shared between them, control comes down to who converts the tie first rather than who reaches across open space.

Cross-reference. “Body-to-body contact” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Over-Under Clinch.
