Pressure pass
Also known as Smash Pass — the canonical term used on this site.
Generic name for the top-pressure smash pass
Pressure pass is a general name for the smash pass — classing it among passes that win by heavy top pressure rather than speed.
Etymology. “Pressure pass” names a style as much as a technique: any pass built on crushing weight rather than footwork. The smash pass is the archetype, so the two names are often used interchangeably. The term has no specific lineage.
Mechanics. The pressure does not stop at the pass — the same crushing weight that flattens the guard carries straight into the pin, so passing and pinning are a single continuous task and the opponent is never given space to recover between the two.
Cross-reference. “Knee shield smash” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Smash Pass.
